So I'm not excited at all about the final. I feel like I've been studying forever and its still not enough. I really hope the fundamentals success book helps me out a lot. Good luck to everyone on the final exam!

6th Entry
I really had fun this wednesday when we did the culture assignment, every group's food was delicious. I don't exactly enjoy speaking in front of a class though, guess I just need some more practice until I'd be comfortable with it. The next day was spent at health south. It was probably the most fun and best learning experience I've had on a clinical day. My patient had multiple health conditions that were all knew to me. I even got to feel the "thrill" from a fistula that my patient had in his wrist. For those of you who have yet to experience this, a thrill is the turbulence produced from blood when an artery and vein are surgically connected. Its kinda like a strong vibrating pulse. Anyways, I'm getting ready for the giants to stomp the bears. Comcast better televise this game. I'll see everyone tomorrow.

5th Entry
So aside from a little food running at Po Boys (where I work), I spent most of the weekend behind a desk studying. It looks like Unit 2 is going to cover more material than Unit 1 :( I currently feel awesome now that I have finally gotten over an upper respiratory infection, I hope I didn't get anybody sick. If I did sorry. Finally going to take a study break for a snack and some TV see everyone tomorrow.

4th Entry
Not the greatest week I've ever had. I was not happy about my performance on the midterm, and so far it looks like the Giants are gonna take a beating from the Colts :( I guess efforts must be doubled for both of us. The clinical day however did go well this week.

3rd Entry
Although I was not completely satisfied with my quiz grade on wednesday, the fun day at Westminster Oaks definitely made up for it. My patient was a fun guy to be around. Even though he was quite old him and I still found out that we had a few things in common. I feel confident that I was able to get plenty of information for the Reminiscence Paper coming up. Aside from that I pretty much laid low this weekend. I could feel a cold coming on the middle of last week and it really hit me hard on friday. Fortunately I had the rest of the weekend to get better. I figured it would be a good opportunity to study for the Midterm that is coming our way this week. I'm not quite sure how I feel about sponge baths this week in lab, I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

2nd Entry
So the second week has come to an end and I can't wait to let loose this weekend. Some friends from out of town are coming in for a visit and I know I'm gonna have some stories to tell by monday. College football also kicks off this weekend! Anyways, I was happy to do well on the math test, and I thoroughly enjoyed learning how to take blood pressure in lab this week. Sorry if I made anybody's arm numb :/ That reminds me, I need to go buy my very own sphygmomanometer. Wow, say that one ten times fast. I also just finished reviewing the vital signs chapter in the book and I'm wondering if the quiz is going to be more from the notes we took in class or stuff from the book. I guess I can only feel confident after studying both. I'm not going to lie, I'm a little nervous about next week's clinical day. Don't know why, but I guess it's just fear of the unknown. I hope I do well and eventually look forward to spending long days at the hospital. Time to go start my weekend, I'll see you on tuesday.

Nursing Blog 1
Once I had decided to go back to college, I knew immediately that I wanted to work in healthcare. Initially, I had pursued physical therapy. After talking about school on the phone with a cousin of mine who works in the E.R. at a local hospital, he had suggested I come do a walk along with him on one of his night shifts. It was a great opportunity to see first hand what kind of career I’d have if I decided to change my mind and apply to nursing school. The events that I remember most was an old woman with stomach pains that the doctors could not diagnose properly, a man that passed out at work from low blood sugar, getting to watch a man with broken ribs get a chest tube inserted into him, then five minutes later a beat up non cooperative inmate from a nearby jail was rolled in shackled to his bed. Needless to say, I thought working in the E.R. would be very exciting and that’s why I want to be a nurse.
However, excitement would just be one of the perks to the job. I think there is a certain satisfaction felt when you can aid the sick back to full health, when you can stabilize a dying patient, or when all you can do is make a sick person more comfortable because there is nothing else you can do. I think a nurse should want to care for and help patients not because it’s there job but because they would do it anyway. When I was at the hospital that night I wanted to do my part and help out, I just did not know how.
